Jump-starting a Career

I read today that Dustin Diamond, the dorky character Screech from Saved by the Bell, in an effort to rekindle his career, has released a sex tape.

Now, I don't know a lot about hollywood. I'm not going to claim to. But is this what it takes to launch (or relaunch) a career nowadays?

I think the sad truth is that it does in fact do something and that's why so many nobody's and used to be's turn to porn to get going. I associate it with dumping a shitload of chemicals into a pool just after winter to really get the germs to disintegrate. And then swimming can begin after that.

But Screech?? I'm not a chick, but I didn't think he was in the top 10 most wanted to see nailing people on film list. I understand people's need for fetish porn and all that, but to restart a career I think you need to tune into more than just the 80's child star groupys that like to see their icons perform the "dirty sanchez." You need a bigger audience.

Keep in mind who I'm talking about here.. This is the guy that almost let a chick steal his PSP games. This is a guy that lost his house and tried to get america to bail him out.

Also consider the precedent he's setting. Should this work, we're going to get a ton of stuff we really didn't want. There's an ugly door here that should remain locked. Here's a look into the future. Other actors that aren't in really active in show biz anymore are going to think this is how you get back in. Soon we'll be getting porn from such acting stars as Bea Arthur, Gilbert Gottfried, and Mr. T.
